Create a Night Light

Check it Out! We always have night lights in our home. It makes it safer and it keeps me from having to leave lights on all night. Of course you can buy all kinds of night lights, in all different styles and the majority of them have to be plugged into the wall. In many of our rooms the outlets are hidden behind furniture so I wanted to Create a Night Light that didn’t require plugging into the wall. I got the idea to create one using a set of bright bluish lights and a couple of household items.

Night Light

Night Light

To Create a Night Light I used a Pringles can, along with some scrapbook paper, a little tissue paper and a drill with a small drill bit, I made this night light that doubles as a flashlight! That is right, a flashlight!

Night Light Flashlight

To create this night light: Simply mod-podged scrapbook paper to the pringles can. Using a drill with a small drill bit, drill holes all around the can. (I followed the cloud pattern design on the scrapbook paper.) Next, place some Styrofoam inside the can for the light battery pack to set on and thread the lights down inside the can.

You can then another piece of Styrofoam to the top to hold it in place and add a circle of tissue paper under the lid if your lights are really bright like mine were. This muted the light and made it perfect for the night light.

Different Variations

Night Light Variation

I decided I wanted to try using a peanut can, after  mod-podging some snowflake tissue paper to the outside of the can and allowing it to dry, I then drilled holes into the can at random places and into the lid. I found that the light pattern was more intense on the wall with the smaller can.

Night Light

Pretty neat night light huh? Will you be creating a night light today? What household goody will you use to create yours? I’d love to see it.

  3. I love it – when I made the canning jar one, it was pretty much just for decoration, but this one would be safe for kids and great as a night light in their rooms!! How cute!! Pinned & tweeted this one!
