Here the wind has started to pick up and the leaves are changing. It finally feels like Fall and I am ready to start decorating and preparing for the next big holiday, Thanksgiving. For the past few years we have celebrated at home and I have had the kids help me with some decorations. This year my kids want to get in on the fun of decorating the table for our meal so I thought a simple, no-sew napkin ring project would be perfect!
Easy No-Sew Fall Napkin Rings
To make these napkin wrings you will need:
- Burlap
- Felt sheets in assorted colors. I used 8 including white, red, brown, green, yellow and shades of orange.
- Fabric glue
- Permanent marker
Start by cutting a strip of burlap. I cut mine 3″ tall, and 8″ long. With my scissors I removed a few strands to leave the edges a little frayed and rustic looking.
Draw your turkey or trace a template onto freezer paper. The shiny side contains the wax, so always write in pencil on the dull side. Place the shiny down onto your desired felt color and then iron according to your felt composition (acrylic or wool). The freezer paper will adhere temporarily to the felt making it easier to cut out small and intricate designs. The stencils can be peeled off the felt and then re-used to cut out another sheet.
Use fabric glue to create your turkey. Create pupils on the eyes with a permanent marker.
Cut a thin strip of green felt, 1″ by 8″ to attach to the middle of the burlap, and glue the turkey body to.
When you are ready to set your holiday table, just wrap your napkin ring around your folded or rolled cloth napkin. I decided to not put a clasp or tie on the ring so it would be kid-friendly and make it easier for them to get to their napkin. Next up we are planning to make matching place cards and probably tie our turkey into other decorations at our holiday table. I can’t wait to see what other ideas my kids come up with!
What kind of Thanksgiving or holiday napkin ring would you create?
What a gorgeous job! I love how this turned out!
That is adorable!!! New sew, basic crafts and you would pay a pretty penny for something like that at the store. I’m going to make my own!! Love it!
Love these! So festive and fun! You make it look so easy too!
