Easy Spring Crafts: Welcome Spring Plaque
Check it Out! I am so super excited that spring is finally here! I love this time of year and I really want a few easy spring crafts to decorate my home. I had this plaque that my neighbor gave me back during the winter. I had hung it up in the storage closet along with my other wreaths and wall decorations for storage. Not really being a teddy bear fan, I mean I love teddy bears, but we don’t have a teddy bear lane here, I figured, why not upcycle it into something I would use every year.
I had picked up a Colorbok Paper Plus kit at Walmart for only $5 a few weeks previously. Inside are some great blocked letters that I cut out for my title. I made a trip to the Dollar Tree and found some cute spring flowers to match. I also had some other items I found on clearance that I incorporated like paper straws and colored twine.
Directions:
First, I had to remove the teddy bear and the bow. Then, I used a palm sander to sand all the writing and color off the plague. I was left with a great, fresh surface to work with. I removed the old hanger, chose a great coordinating paint color and gave the plaque a few coats of paint. Then I allowed it to dry thoroughly.
I wanted my letters to stand out so I backed them with brightly colored paper. I really love the banner look so I knew I wanted to incorporate that. I cut the backing for the letters for spring into pennants. Then, I punched some holes in the corners and ran a piece of the purple twine through the holes to create the pennant. I laid everything out on the plaque and then fixed it all down with glue dots.
I didn’t have any mesh or wide lace. I had discovered a few days ago, while messing around with a bath pouf, that if you cut one open you get like 3 yards of mesh! I cut some smaller pieces off and ran a ribbon down through the center of the pieces. Then, I cinched them up and created some mesh circles. I hot glued them to each corner of the plaque where I had attached the twine to hold up my pennant.
I cut off the back wires of the larger blue flowers and hot glued them to the center of the mesh circles. I used the back wires of the yellow flowers to wrap them around the new hanger I had attached to the existing holes in the plaque. I added two of the paper straws to the center and some of the pink floral pieces as well to finish it off! I am so happy with the outcome! What do you think?
What are your favorite easy spring crafts?
I absolutely love upcycle projects! You are very creative that way in that you see the beauty potential in everything, where I see it as a blank! Thanks for sharing your project today! I think the “pouf clip” trick is especially awesome!
Rose, You are an amazing inspiration for me so thank you in so many ways!
What a cute spring craft. I love projects that transform things I already have!
Me too Ellen! I love to take something old and worn out and give it new life! Thanks!
How beautiful!! Never thought to reuse a loofah, that’s awesome!! Pinned & Tweeted!
Thanks Jamie! It’s great, because you can pick them up for just cents. I get them 3 in a pack for $1 and that’s a lot of mesh in there! I am brainstorming now for new ways to use them! lol Thanks for sharing!
