Eco Chic Bags

Check it Out! I find it a challenge to make something new out of something old. There is nothing like the feeling I get when I have a finished product that makes ya go, hmmm…that’s cool! This past week I have been brainstorming about what to do with a variety of plastic containers that I have saved over the last couple of months. From kitty litter containers to shampoo bottles, I knew there was something that could be made from them. Since I don’t have a lot of supplies, the clothes in the yard sale pile suddenly had a purpose. You will see that with just a few upcycled supplies and materials, you can create a plethora of Eco chic bags.

Eco Chic Bags

Each of these chic bags were constructed with repurposed plastic containers, denim and old shirts for coverage, and old belts, ribbon, lace, and rope to create handles and embellishments. Hot glue was used to adhere the different coverings and embellishments to create these super fun Eco chic bags, however, sewing it all together would be a great alternative.

Eco Chic BagsPrep Containers In Advance: Cut the spout portion of the containers off, remove labels, wash the containers and allow drying time before proceeding to the creation process.

Step 1 – Cut the fabric big enough to fit around the bottle and tall enough to line the inside. Using hot glue, attach the fabric to the container and create an even seam up the side by folding the edges over to get an even line.

Step 2 – Fold the fabric over the top edge and drape it down the inside of the container, and glue it down.

Step 3 – Using the bottom of the container as a guide, cut out a denim circle to cover the base of the inside of the container. Glue the denim circle down.

Step 4 – Keeping the ends directly across from each other, glue the piece of rope, belt, ribbon (or whatever your using) down to create the handles.

To Create The Skirt: Cut the top and arms off of the shirt and place it around the outside of the container, then drape it over the edge to the inside so that it ends just at the bottom of the container.  Glue down the fabric all around the top edge and then down the inside to the bottom.  Cut a circle using the bottom of the container as a guide and then glue it down on the inside to cover the base.
