Add some festive items to bring in the spirit of the season. If there is a possibility of rain or snow, put out a nice mat for them to stomp their books on and a holder for umbrellas.

Next, Clear the Coat Rack or Closet

Unless you live in paradise, chances are your guests will be arriving with puffy coats, scarves, and more. And you will want to give them a place to keep them. While you won’t want to do this in advance, on the day of, clear out your own items so your guests have the space they need.

Prep the Guest Room

If you have overnight guests coming, you need the guest room ready. Clean the bedding, fluff the pillows, and stock it up with extra towels, sheets, soaps, and more. You want to make it as easy as possible for your guests to feel at home.

The holiday season is a time when new items arrive in the form of presents and gifts you give yourself. To get ready, take the time to weed out items you no longer use, that are outgrown, have broken, or no one is particularly attached to. Once they are sold, donated, or tossed, you will have the room you need for the new items.
