How To Make Cross-Stitch Napkin Rings – #TBCCrafters

Since we are getting into spring time and planning on having friends over for dinner parties and things like that, I figured having some special things for the table would be fun. I’ve been cross-stitching since I was about 8, so these were pretty easy for me. My Aunt taught me years ago how to do cross-stitch, and it’s just been something that I’ve always done.  It’s an easy way to make a meal fun and not have to worry about the expensive rings that you see at the store.

How To Make Cross-Stitch Napkin Rings

If you have prior cross-stitch experience, these are pretty easy to make. I just used some leftover craft supplies that I had in my supply closet to create the pieces! You only need some small amounts of Vinyl-Weave 14 Count Cross Stitch Fabric, just a bit of floss and you’re set.

Materials/Tools Used

  • Vinyl-Weave 14 Count Cross Stitch Fabric
  • Floss
  • Scissors
  • Napkins
  • & Time!

Instructions

Start by cutting some pieces of the Vinyl Weave to use as the bands.  You’ll need about 1″ x 6″ or so – depending on the napkin you will be using, size you want, etc.

Next, cut some small squares of the Vinyl Weave to use for the strawberries.  These only need to be about 2″ square, which is a bit large, but great for being able to trim easier.

When you have the long pieces ready, you can just use a style of back-stitch to decorate the edges.  I just wanted to keep it simple, so I added the edge and a border.

Once I had all of the bands finished, I started on the berries.  Using the different colors of floss, I designed the fruit on each piece.  Using french knots for the “spots” on each berry, and back-stitching for the stems, etc.

After the pieces are finished, just trim up the edges to be as close to the stitching as possible, without allowing it to fall off.  Then, just attach the berry to the band with some stitches and then close up the back of the hoop with some regular stitches.

After that, just fold up and insert your napkins into each one and enjoy!
