Simple To Make “Squash Acorns”

I saw something like this in a magazine awhile back, and thought it would be fun to try.  It’s very easy to do and is a great way to decorate your table for the Fall season.  Would be perfect to use on the Thanksgiving table for decor, as well.  Living up in the mountains of Arizona, we get many of the small acorns on the ground from all of our oak trees.  The squirrels are going crazy right now, saving them up for the cold winter months.  It’s always fun to watch them scooting around and stuffing their cheeks with acorn bounty.  I figured creating a “squash acorn” would add a little “wow” to the normally boring vegetable.  I hope you like it!!

Simple To Make “Squash Acorns”

Materials/Tools Used

  • Acorn Squash
  • 1/4″ Sisal Rope
  • Glue Gun
  • Scissors
  • & Time!

Instructions

Start by adding a dot of glue about a quarter of the way under the stem area.  Begin wrapping your rope piece on that dot.  Wrap the rope around the top, securing it with more glue, as you go.

Once you get all of the way to the top, use your scissors to cut the rope.  Add another dot of glue to secure that.

When you have that done, cut a piece of rope just about 2″ long.  Add glue on the top of half of it and fold it over onto itself to make the stem.

Glue the step to the top of the squash to create your “acorn stem”.

Now you have your “Squash Acorns” – use them to decorate wherever you wish and enjoy the Fall season! 🙂
