The Best Times to Post to Facebook

Social media plays a huge part in marketing and blogging but not all social media platforms work the same or yield the same results. Facebook has over 750 million active users. If you aren’t using Facebook to promote your blog or brand you are missing a huge opportunity to connect with your current and potential audience.

The Best Times to Post to Facebook

Lack of engagement on their Facebook page discourages many people. Like with most media, content is key. If you aren’t producing compelling and engaging content, no one is going to care. But if you are creating interesting information and are still getting no response, you probably are posting at the wrong times.  There is no magic day or time when you will reach the most people but here are a few tips on how to find you Facebook interaction sweet spot:

  • Know Your Audience – If you are managing a Facebook Fan Page, use the Page Insights to see who is following your page. Consider age, gender, your content and what might be the daily schedule of your target audience.  As you can see based on my page insights, my reach should be geared toward American women between the age of 25 -34 and since my page is promoting a parenting blog I can assume most of these women are mothers. (So it’s safe to assume that many in my readers will be stay-at-home moms who want to hop on Facebook after lunch, during nap time.) However, your audience may have a completely different lifestyle, so do a little homework before you post.

  • Watch Your Competition – Maybe competition isn’t the best word since we want to build a supportive community among bloggers but for this example it’s the best word I could think of. Follow other brands and blogs that are similar to you and see when they post and get the most engagement from. If you want to reach the same audience, you might want to post during the same times. However, if everyone is posting at the same time note that your post may get lost among the influx of new posts in the feed.
  • General Consensus – Most research has found that there are “peak” times to post to Facebook.  The best times to post are weekdays between 1pm and 4pm and early morning.  The worst times to post are anytime during the weekend and weekdays after 8pm.  Just because it’s the general consensus does not mean it will work for you. The best time to post to Facebook is going to be unique to you.
  • Be Consistent – If you post regularly and have quality content, the traffic will come. You may not have thousands of followers or be able to engage each person but that’s OK.  Quality is key. Identify your target audience and tailor your content to yield genuine response from those people. It’s always better to have a handful of dedicated followers than thousands of followers that could care less about what you have to say.

Make social media work for you. Do your homework, try out a few different times, post regularly and find when your audience is most engaged.
