I was never one who needed to exercise to lose weight. I was one of those people who can eat whatever I wanted. I was very active with sports, dancing, and running after two kids. I would start an exercise program and be gung ho for a couple weeks and then fade out ….quick. When I was in my 30’s I started an exercise regimen at the gym at work and for six weeks I faithfully stretched, lifted, and ran on the treadmill. I did this because we were going to Hawaii and I didn’t feel like I would be able to wear the bikini that I wanted to wear. I never felt better, for the first time in years I had an amazing amount of energy. When we got back from Hawaii I didn’t go back. I then became anti-fitness, I was thin, why put myself through the agony of starting up again.

Fast forward to me in my forty’s, bones starting to creek, food not settling right, and every other sign of getting older. I now realize I may not need to lose weight but I do need to exercise to “get healthy”.  I started to work out with my daughter and again I was on a roll. I tweeted about and the support that “I can do it!” was there strong. Well my tweets have stopped because I stopped.

My  former partner (in business), Deb Mitchell has been on a regimen and sticking to it. Let me add here how proud I am of her and envious too. She also started a support group in The Blogger Connection forum and every Monday has a chat with others to talk about issues, and to give each other strength. If you’re thinking about losing weight or just getting healthy, join her in the Get Off Your Ass group.

I recently started walking and will be getting back to a healthy routine, including eating better. This does not mean I’ll be giving up my ice cream and chocolate but I will cut it down. Everyone waits until New Years to start a diet or exercise and it usually doesn’t last long. Let’s all start now and get in shape for the holidays. I’m thinking if I start now, I’ll still be able to have a piece of pie but I won’t pig out and if I should slip and fall, I will get back up and start again!

In honor of Getting In Shape For the Holidays we’re giving away The Perfect Bum DVD to get you started!
