We all scream for our teams to crush the opponents but when there’s a serious injury, we all say a prayer in hopes they’ll be alright. In today’s Pittsburgh Steelers vs Oakland Raiders, wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was knocked out. In slow motion they showed safety Ryan Mundy hit Darrius in the face mask, snapping his head back. You cringed, took a huge breath and held it for a very long time as you watched his head snap back and fall to the ground like a lifeless doll. When hitting the ground he bounced, smashing his head yet again. A penalty wasn’t called by the replacement officials. Both teams on their knees, watched intensely and stood to cheer when Darrius gave the thumbs up sign from the stretcher as he left the field and was taken to the hospital with a neck injury.

The NFL is very strict with helmet to helmet penalties and when seeing these injuries, you can agree. One of the most horrifying hits I have ever seen was when Eric Smiths (Jets) hit Anquan Boldin (Cardinals).
Let’s hope we don’t see anymore of these injuries the rest of the season!
