nfl-logoThis weekend the NFL playoffs might have been one of the most exciting in quite some time. Saturday the 49ers were able to overcome the Packers for a spot in the division finals next week, and on Sunday it was no surprise when Brady brought the Patriots to a comfortable victory over the Texans for their spot in the division finals.

But that isn’t where the excitement came in… two games this weekend, the battle in the cold between the Ravens and Broncos and the battle of angry birds between the Falcons and Seahawks, gave viewers a thrill til the last second of the game that is the true glory of football.

First, on Saturday the Broncos and Ravens battled back and forth keeping the game tied at the end of every quarter and heading through double overtime, where it took Justin Tucker’s 47 yard field goal for the Ravens to take the victory over Denver.  At first it looked completely like Denver’s game with Trindon Holliday’s 248 yard record returns, especially his 90 yard punt return and 104 yard kickoff return.  However after a game changing interception Flacco produced what is now referred to as the “Flacco Fling” to Jacoby Jones for a 70 yard completion with 31 seconds left to go in the fourth quarter.  Setting up overtime for the Ravens to create the first big upset of the weekend and move towards the AFC Championship game.

And if you thought the weekend couldn’t get anymore exciting, leave it up to some seriously angry birds to give a breathtaking performance down to the very last second!  Even with the Falcons seasonal record of 13-3, they were not looked at as the favorite to win Sunday’s game. However at the half with the score 20-0 favoring Atlanta, it seemed as if there was no hope for Seattle. Then the second half Wilson came out with a new fire, avoiding pressure, making passes, and working with his team to get Seattle ahead 28-27 in the fourth quarter. Even with the close call of a fumble in the end-zone by Seattle, the game seemed to be just about over, but Atlanta wasn’t done yet. Ryan succeeded with a 19 yard pass to Gonzalez with just 13 seconds left on the clock. And with a 49 field goal separating Atlanta from victory, Seattle coach Pete Carroll did what every fan hates to see, and iced the kicker. That kick was shanked and would have meant for a Seattle victory, but unfortunately the coach’s mistake allowed kicker Matt Bryant another shot, which went right down the middle, sending Atlanta to the NFC Championship game next week.

Hopefully this upcoming week in football will not disappoint and games will continue to be as exciting and nail biting as they have been. So keep the beer cold and the wings hot, it’s going to be a wild ride.
