It is all too easy to hand over junk food to out hungry kids to make them happy and to allow us to get back to the task at hand. However, we all know the importance of a healthy diet. So instead of turning to junk food the next time your children need a quick bite to eat, consider some of the healthy and fast snack ideas below.
A little sweet, a little salty, and satisfyingly crunchy, trail mix is always a favorite. You can easily make your mixes based on what your children like, even making a different combination for each child. Buy nuts, fruits, and other mixings in bulk to make it cheaper for you.
Plantains look like giant bananas and can be cooked sweet or savory. This particular snack is meant to be sweet. All you need to do is cut the plantains into thick “chips” and grill them on an electric grill or toast them in a frying pan. When they are done, drizzle them with a little bit of honey and top with cinnamon if you like. Can’t find plantains at your local grocery store? Substitute un-ripe bananas instead.
Always a favorite, this is as simple as it gets. Cut celery stalks into smaller piece, fill with peanut butter, and top with raisins. It is easy, delicious, and kids love its whimsical name.
