Does Your Child Have Too Many Toys?

When it comes to the right amount of toys, there is no magic number. What is right for your family may not be wrong for others. So rather than asking yourself if your child has too many toys, ask yourself the questions below.

Do You Have Space for The Toys You Have?

The first concern you should have is having the space to organize and store all the toys. If you have more toys than space, this is a clear sign that you need to eliminate some of them. But before you do, be sure to ask yourself if it is a space issue over an organizational issue. If a different approach could make them more manageable, you do not need to get to donating just yet.

Does Your Child Seem Overwhelmed by Choice?

Even if you have all the space in the world, that doesn’t mean you should hold onto all toys. If your child seems overwhelmed when playing or determined to jump constantly from toy to toy, you may need to reduce the number of options. Yes, having lots of toys can be nice, but if it is causing your child to stress, it is more detrimental than good.

Are All the Toys Getting Played With?

If you notice that there are certain toys not getting played with, the best thing to do is allow them to go to someone who will play with them. It is best not to involve your child in determining which toys aren’t played with; kids have a tendency to try then to play with all their toys just to prove they do use them. Instead, observe carefully.

Has Your Child Outgrown Some of the Toys?

Finally, as your child grows and matures, many toys will no longer have a purpose. If there are still toys around that are developmentally immature, pack them up and donate them. There is no need to let them keep taking up space
