To help, read our time management tips for work at home moms below.
Tally your average waking hours and then allot a certain percentage to work, home chores, and family time. Then, work these percentages into a schedule that divides your day. This allows you to spread out these hours as needed, making it so you don’t have to work for a straight block, then clean for a straight block, then relax with family for yet another block of time. Instead, you can use the hours you have as you need to, sticking to the percentages to maintain balance.
If you are going to stick to your percentages, you need to prioritize your tasks. Decide what must be done today, what can wait for tomorrow if needed, and what can be put off for several days. This allows you to easily figure out how to prioritize your tasks.
This may mean saying no to your child’s school when asked to run the bake sale, to your client when asked to take on extra work, or even to your family when they want to do something that is just not going to work for your schedule. Saying no is okay. Even if it makes some people see you as the bad guy for a moment, it doesn’t actually make you the bad guy. You need to know and respect your limits in order to maintain your sanity.
