Do you feel like you spend way too much time cleaning? Well, there are ways you can reduce the time you spend on chores that do not involve hiring a cleaning service. Below are some simple tips for how to save time on cleaning.

How to Stop Procrastinating

How to Save Time on Cleaning

Set a Timer

We think that setting it for 10-15 minutes is best. This gives you enough time to complete a task without giving you so much time that you can get off track. Work as quickly as you can and see if you can finish before the timer goes off. As an added bonus, kids love this, and it can be a great way to get them in on the chores.

Clean as You Go

Be proactive, not reactive. Rather than allowing messes to grow and grow, clean as you go. You spill something, wipe it up. You brush your teeth, rinse the sink. You take a shower, spray it down. This allows you to address problems in minimal time and also stops you from feeling overwhelmed, which often just leads to procrastination.

Start at the Top

Gravity means that things fall, including dirt and dust. If you start by cleaning the floors, you will just need to clean them again after you clean everything else. Work from top to bottom, starting with ceiling fans and finishing with the floor. If your home has more than one level, also start at the top and work your way down.

Prepare the Room Before Vacuuming

Vacuuming should be a quick and simple task, but if you are picking up as your vacuum, it will take forever. Instead, get everything ready in advance, even moving light furniture if needed. You will be amazed at how much time you save. Also, keep a small, hand vacuum around to take care of smaller messes as they happen.
