How to Grow Your Social Media Handles Naturally

Add Social Share Buttons to Every Post

Asking your followers to share might seem pushy, but just making sure the option is there isn’t. For most netizens, it is natural to share whatever they like, so all you are doing is facilitating their normal behavior.

Link Social Media on About and Contact Pages

Once again, it feels natural to have links to your social media pages in these spots. Your about page makes sense because your readers could go to your social media pages to learn more about you. And as for your contact page, well, they are another place where people can get in touch.

Make it Part of a Contest

Following social media pages to enter into contests has become par for the course. You might as well get in on it too. No one even questions this any longer, so once again, it feels 100% natural.

Choose Hashtags Carefully

The more relevant your hashtags, the more likely it is that interested readers will come across you on their own, following your page because they like what they see. If you aren’t sure how to approach this, use a hashtag tool to help.

Mention Your Social Media in Your Posts

But make it feel organic. Talk about conversations on your page, a post you liked that you shared there, or anything that feels relevant to your audience. This should naturally pique curiosity and drive followers.

Use the Right Social Networks

Knowing your audience means knowing which social networks they are likely to use. Rather than focusing on as many as possible, focus on that that count and work on your presence there. You should be able to get them interested without effort.

Great tips Ellen, and so nice to see you promote an authentic way to grow. Buying followers seems to have grown in popularity this year, but I simply refuse to even consider that. I’ve taken the slow and steady approach to growing my social networks over the years and I’m proud my efforts, but know I can improve.
