Wondering how to dress up jarred spaghetti sauce? Making your own spaghetti sauce is quite impressive. It is also something that few of us have the time for, which is why most of us will turn to the stuff in a jar whenever we need it. However, those jarred sauces tend to lack that special something.

So, what is the solution? Find creative ways to jazz up that jarred sauce and make it one of a kind. Sure, it might not be the labor of love that making your own sauce would be, but if it gives you more time with the family, it is a fair tradeoff. Below are 5 ways to dress up jarred spaghetti sauce.

1. Grab a Jar of Chimichurri

What on earth is chimichurri? It is a South American condiment that is spooned over many dishes, but especially grilled meat. It can be used as a marinade as well. Olive oil is the base, and then herbs, garlic, and spices are added. But what most do not know is that you can add a spoon or two of it to your jarred pasta sauce to completely transform the flavor. Simply add it to the sauce, stir, and heat to help the flavors mix. Just like that, your sauce will taste incredible.

2. Sautee Some Veggies

This one isn’t quite as simple as option number one, but it is a great way to bring the flavor. Pick some veggies you like—onions and peppers are good—and sautee them until they are nice and soft and the flavors have been released. Then, add your sauce to the pan and simmer it all together.

3. Make it a Meat Sauce

This option adds flavor and helps your pasta dish become a complete meal. Ground beef is the standard, but you can try sausage, ground turkey, or something else altogether. Just be sure that you drain the grease off the meat before you combine it with the sauce.

4. Mix in Some Chopped Greens

This option will add flavor, but it also sneaks in those healthy greens. Chop them small enough that they aren’t super noticeable and the sauce will hide them well. It is an easy way to get extra vitamins and minerals.

5. Give it Some Creaminess

This option won’t make it healthier, but it will make it yummy. Start with a spoon of Mexican crema, cream cheese, ricotta, or another item that mixes easily and has the right consistency. Test the sauce and see if this has given you the taste and texture you are going for. If not, add a little bit more and try again.
