Five Things You Didn’t Know About Magic Mike

Yes, yes. I’m a little late. Magic Mike is probably well out of the theaters and on his merry way to On Demand and DVD but here is a little something you can read to hold you over until you can score your very own copy of Mike for private home viewing.

If you can’t figure what the movie is about from the above trailer, read this movie description from Warner Brothers.

Spoiler Alert!

Now then, this post assumes that you have watched the trailer, the movie or read the review here are five things you didn’t know about Magic Mike. If you have not, here are some spoiler alerts.
You’ve been warned.

1. Magic Mike is a love story.
Mike is just a man looking for love and so what if he takes his clothes off while doing. Sure, he indulges in anonymous three way sex with Olivia Munn’s Joanna and yes, he does strip but he is really looking for someone to love. This is supported by Mike’s pursuing a relationship with The Kid’s older sister Brooke

2. Magic Mike is a movie about entrepreneurs.
Mike is working hard at making his American dream a reality. He just wants to earn enough money to make his dream of designing funky furniture a reality. Stripping just pays the bills!
This is supported by Mike attempting to start his business by saving up money thrown at him by the ladies.

3. Magic Mike is about drug use and abuse.
The Kid decides to partake in a side hustle of selling and gets into a bind. Mike does partake in drugs…and there are consequences! This is no afterschool special look at drugs. This is a gritty, get your ass kicked, or at least your house tore up, where’s my money man, look at drugs.

4. Magic Mike is about dancing.
That little bit of stripping going on in the movie is second to the moves these guys come up with. They don’t just dance, they perform. Choreographed dance numbers lead to the eventual disrobing. And the use of The Weather Girls It’s Raining Men… genius!

5. Magic Mike is about Tampa.
Look at the lush scenery that dominates the movie! Tampa is gorgeous and it looks fun. Between the scenes of shirtless men and debauchery the setting makes Tampa look like the place to be.

And there you have it.
So while you may think you are going to be eye hustling hot men who wear itty bitty banana hammocks, what you are really looking at is a man with a plan…that’s magic.

Getting some ones,

  1. I actually saw this a few weeks ago and I found it interesting that they didn’t let that be know in the trailers that it wasn’t just about stripping. I thought the end was cut short but later learned that there is talk of a Part 2 in the works. I’d be interested in seeing if Mike continues to pursue his dreams in making unique furniture pieces or if he will go to Miami and battle Dallas by opening up his own show.

    Nice review 🙂

    • Thanks for stopping by and maybe when Magic Mike 2 comes out, you can do the review for us! Would love to have you on board.

  2. A Part 2 I must have missed that news article. I think just leave well enough alone. Either they would go follow Alex or see if Mike makes his company.

I am not going to lie I was looking for stripping but it is a dark world I know for I new a few back at the Chippendale’s day

  3. Debbie Mitchell says

Yesterday was rainy in NYC, so I treated myself to a screening of Magic Mike. I didn’t know what to expect but was happy that there was a storyline along with the stripping. I thought Magic Mike had the great dance moves and gave the movie heart. I also liked the character, Brooke, she wasn’t the typical Hollywood leading lady, instead she seemed like a regular girl. Mike and her flirting throughout the movie was cute. I also thought the end was a little abrupt, but if there is going to be a part 2, then that explains it.
Loved your review and thought it captured the movie perfectly.
